Integrated and Comprehensive Approaches to the Funding and Delivery of Early Childhood Education and Care

If families across the Foundation’s funding area are to have access to high quality early childhood education and care then significant changes are required in how early learning is both funded and delivered.

Drawing mainly on experiences in other jurisdictions, a growing number of studies highlight the need for an approach to early childhood education and care that sees early learning and care environments, kindergarten and related family support programs as interrelated components of a more comprehensive approach to early childhood development.

Foundation Supported Work

The Foundation is currently working with early childhood education stakeholders in Alberta and Saskatchewan to consider how changes can be made to the way in which early learning is funded and delivered. The Foundation proposes to document the results of this work in a discussion paper which could then provide a basis for wider consultations on a more integrated and comprehensive approach to the funding and delivery of early childhood education and care.
